INSPIRATION Vincent van Gogh _Almond Blossom_ 1890 DIMENSIONS 13.5" x 17.5"  34 cm x 45 cm Material: Canvas Care instruction: Washable. Dry flat. About _Almond Blossom __Almond Blossom_ was made to celebrate the birth of Vincent van Gogh’s nephew, son of his brother Theo and sister-in-law Jo. Theo wrote to his brother on January 31, 1890, to announce the birth of his son, also named Vincent. Vincent was very close to his brother Theo and he sought to symbolize new life in the flowers of the almond tree for the birth of baby Vincent. The composition is unlike any other of van Gogh's paintings. The branches of the almond tree seem to float against the blue sky and fill the picture plane. The works reflect the influence of Japanese woodcuts. Flowering trees were special to van Gogh. They represented awakening and hope. He enjoyed them aesthetically and found joy in painting flowering trees. About Vincent van Gogh Known for his bold, brilliant paintings and precarious mental health, Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art, forever known as one of the greatest artists of the modern era. Vincent Willem van Gogh was born in the Netherlands on March 30, 1853. He shared a fiercely strong bond with his brother, Theo, an art dealer who supported him both financially and emotionally. They exchanged hundreds of letters over the course of their lives.  Van Gogh’s finest works were produced in less than three years. Dominated by vivid hues applied with impassioned, if not frenetic, brushstrokes, his singular technique denotes a forceful expression of emotion through color. In all, Van Gogh completed more than 2,100 works, consisting of 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors, drawings and sketches during his decade-long career. While he only ever sold one painting in his lifetime, Van Gogh’s works are now considered priceless.
