His rendering of the constellations is so precise that it is possible to pinpoint the date of the painting to September 16-17, 1888. True to form, he expresses the night sky in a blaze of emotion and color, without any touch of black whatsoever. Instead, the night sky is awash with beautiful blue, violet and green, intensified by the pale sulphur yellow and lemon green glow of the lighted square below. Van Gogh painted _Café Terrace at Night_ in the evening in Arles, France. He set up his easel beside the neighbouring building, at the north-east corner of the Place du Forum, so as to capture the outdoor patio of the Café Terrace in its entirety. The painting is not signed, but described and mentioned by the artist in three letters. One of the world’s greatest artists, Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh completed more than 2,100 works, consisting of 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors, drawings and sketches during his decade-long career.
