The story of Hape, from the initials of its founder Peter Handstein, began in 1986. Peter grew up in a rural community in central Germany. Profound respect for the family, honesty, compassion and love of nature: Hape is the reflection of the values which accompany its founder throughout his life.
At Hape, we believe that playing is the most important thing for children around the world. Germany invented the concept of "kindergarten" and if children learn by playing, they will have a better understanding of life and thus become stronger adults in the future. Hape toys are created to inspire, imagine and explore the world we live in.
Hape's “Love Play Learn” philosophy is to think that love is mutual love between a child and a parent, to play is to experience success or failure, and learning is the natural result of love and play.
Recognized for the incomparable quality of its toys, Hape attaches great importance to transmission, from generation to generation.
Now the world's largest producer of wooden toys, Hape wants to protect the environment for our children and future generations. Our production corresponds to the highest environmental standards and we are constantly looking for natural and sustainable materials. We use water-based paints, vegetable inks and our packaging is made from recycled materials. A pioneer in ecological toys, an alliance with UNESCO enabled Hape in 2005 to release the very first complete range of toys made from bamboo, a renewable natural resource.
